Date added: 08/05/2011 ITProPortal - Intel UltraBook May Be Priced Below $1000

Intel has claimed that the cost of its super-thin UltraBook laptops will undercut that of Apple’s MacBook Air.

UltraBook laptops, which are expected to be offered by at least three manufacturers, were said to be priced more than $1,000.

However, now, the company has presented a new Bill of Materials (BOM) for the UltraBook laptops to manufacturers, indicating that they could be priced well below the $1,000 mark.

The BOM for 21mm thick UltraBook laptops could run anywhere between $475 and $650 while the 18mm versions will run a BOM between $493 and $710. Intel is planning to pursue the manufacturers at a meeting in Taipei next week, focusing on telling them how to make UltraBooks laptops that cost less than $1,000.
