Date added: 05/04/2011 PCMAG - AMD Releases Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition CPU

AMD today announced the release of the Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition CPU. The chip, designed for AM3 sockets, is likely to be one of the last before new Llano- and Bulldozer-based models hit the market soon.

The quad-core 980 BE chip is based on the Deneb core and a 45nm production process and runs at a frequency of 3.7GHz, the highest default clocking of any AMD CPU to date. For still more speed potential, it has an unlocked multiplier to allow for easier overclocking.

The 980 BE contains 512KB of L1 cache, 2MB L2 cache, and 6MB of shared L3 cache, in addition to an integrated 128-bit memory controller. Its TDP is 125 watts.
